Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Choose a topic and restrict it according to the purpose and the audience
- Fulfill the purpose of oral discourse by formulating a clear thesis statement, providing adequate supporting material, selecting a suitable organizational pattern, demonstrating careful choice of words, and providing effective transitions
- Employ vocal variety in rate, pitch, and intensity
- Demonstrate nonverbal behavior that supports the verbal message
- Critically evaluate speeches (your own and your peers’) by recognizing main ideas, identifying supporting details, recognizing explicit relationships among ideas, and recalling basic ideas/details
