Persuasive Video Essay

This week you will deliver a persuasive 6-8 minute video essay on a topic of your choice, using one of the classical rhetorical proofs outlined by Aristotle. This assignment will challenge you to employ effective public speaking techniques, research skills, and persuasive communication to engage your audience.

Requirements:

  • Topic selection:
    • Choose a topic that genuinely interests you and is suitable for a persuasive speech.
    • It could be related to social issues, current events, technology, or any other area you are passionate about.
  • Rhetorical proof:
    • Incorporate one of Aristotle’s classical rhetorical proofs (Ethos, Pathos, or Logos) into your speech to enhance its persuasiveness.
    • Identify and explain the chosen rhetorical proof in your essay.
  • Outlines:
    • Share the working outline you have already created and complete and share speaking outline for your speech.
    • The speaking outline should be concise, with keywords and prompts to guide you during delivery.
  • Research:
  • Video:
    • Film yourself delivering the speech and ensure it falls within the 6-8 minute time frame.
    • Pay attention to your tone, body language, and overall presentation style.
    • Maintain eye contact with the camera to create a connection with your audience.
  • Sharing the video:
    • Upload the link to a sharing site like KSU SharePoint (be sure to give permission so your video can be viewed by those in the class), Vimeo, or YouTube
    • You may set the video to unlisted so that we can see the video but it cannot be found in a search if you prefer.
    • Share your embedded presentation link. It must be an embedded or you will earn a “0” (i.e. I do not want to see the actual URL address)
