Persuasion is defined as the process of creating, reinforcing, or changing people’s beliefs or actions. Persuasion is difficult because people have a bias against change and it can be stressful. To help you select and develop your topic, we will go through several steps to help get you ready.
This week, you will have to craft a proposition (a statement in a persuasive speech that is a judgment or an opinion) and you will have to select one of the classical persuasive appeals (ethos, logos, or pathos) to use. Finally, you need to share at least 1 source as evidence in your persuasive video essay.
Here is what you need to include for each of the two topics:
- Each topic with a 2 -3 sentence overview
- Your proposition for each of the topics
- 1 source for each topic that is evaluated using the CRAAP Method
- Currency:
- When was the information published?
- Has it been updated?
- Are the internal links functional?
- Relevance:
- Does the information relate to your topic?
- Who is the intended audience?
- Is the information at the appropriate level?
- Authority:
- Is the author listed?
- Is there contact information for the author?
- Is the author qualified to write about the topic?
- Accuracy:
- Where does the supporting information come from?
- Are the claims supported by evidence?
- Are there spelling or grammar errors?
- Purpose:
- What is the purpose of this information? To inform? To persuade? To entertain?
- Is the point of view of the piece objective or is the purpose clear?
