In this first step, you will explore possible scientific concepts and begin basic research. This will prepare you to use definition, description, and illustration in later writing.
Prompt:
- Choose three (3) scientific concepts you want to learn more about
- Examples: mass, entropy, gravity, AI, photosynthesis, black holes, vaccines, quantum computing
- For each of the three concepts, submit the following:
- A brief, basic definition in your own words (2 – 3 sentences)
- One peer-reviewed source which can include:
- Journal article
- Scholarly book chapter
- Conference paper
- A short annotation of each of your selected sources:
- 4 – 6 sentences in length
- Summary of the main points of the source(s)
- You should be able to explain how this source can help with the following aspects of your topic:
- Definition– explaining your concept clearly
- Decription– showing what it is like or how it works
- Illustration– giving concrete examples or scenarios
Your Submission Needs to Include:
- APA Title Page (be sure to include all group members as authors)
- Three potential topics for your long definition paper and presentation
- A working definition for each of your topics
- An academic source for each topic shared in APA citation style
- An annotation for the selected source
